I have done the a instrument home study course. No flight training yet. I have done 2 ifr flights on PE. Both times my clearance was different than my flight plan. Is this normal if your route isn't a perfered IFR route?

The trick is to find out if there is a preferred route for your city pair, then file that, because that is what you're going to get. See the I3 rating in the pilot training program to learn more.
