Gentlemen, is there any source that would list enroute SoCal frequencies? As some of you know, I have a hearing problem and having a list would probably help me a lot. Last night I had a very hard time hearing decimal digits and that is why I ask. Cheers, AJ

134.20 (around Burbank)
134.90 (the LAX transitions)
135.40 (around ONT)
127.20 (around SNA)
126.70 (PSP)
119.60 (SAN area)

It's not exhaustive, but those would be the most frequent for what you're doing.

There's no need to memorize these things, and I'm not sure what this list is going to actually do for you. I realize your hearing is an issue, but "say again" goes a long way. When I fly into a brand new area (which is a frequent occurrence), I know none of the freqs in advance, or even the approach names. I simply read back the frequency and dial it in within the next 1-2 seconds, listen for 3 seconds, if all clear, make the call. I assure you, between the ambient noise in the cockpit when flying at 170-175kias, my passive headset and my less than stellar reception, it takes considerable concentration to hear the assigned frequency...and every now and then, I ask them to say it again, normally because there's one or two digits that I couldn't make out.

If you did want to prepare ahead of time for some reason on a real world flight, you could review the TRACON freqs by looking at the LAX Sectional Chart. As was pointed out in the workshops a few times, there is a list of facilities frequencies available on the corner of the chart. Look for the "Class B, Class C, TRSA and Selected Approach Control Frequencies" on the edge of the sectional (not far from the Special Use Airspace list)

I was not going to memorize the frequencies but rather have a list handy, in case I can not hear the end of the transmission, I would just take a quick peek and it should work.
I might as well just use "say again" but believe me , I feel so bad and stupid when I can not get it the first time or better yet, second or third ....
As far as the frequencies reference, of course, Sectional Chart , I should know better than that...

AJ, as for your sound issue, are you flying Windows 7?

Julio, yes, Windows 7 but the problem is totally personal, I have a hearing problem, some controllers transmissions are very clear and some are not for me but again, hardware and software has nothing to do with it. Thank you for the concern. Cheers, AJ

AJ, I used to have the same trouble - thought it was impossible to hear controller until I finally found a solution. If you click on the volume control in Win7, there is a mixer option. When you click on that it brings up the levels for each program. I realized that my FSX levels were at the same level as PilotEdge, hence the problems with hearing controllers. I reset it so that Pilot Edge was at least 1/4 louder than FSX and I no longer have issues. Have you tried this?

Julio, I think I do , I have the sounds of X-Plane down and the earphones volume up so the ratio of the speech to other sounds is high ( not realistic but I have to). If I had a problem with all transmissions, I would have to look for other options but there are Controllers that I hear just perfect and never have to ask to repeat while there are couple when I had to use "say again" many times.

Roger that. I'd definitely suggest signing on, tuning in a frequency, and playing with the mixer to calibrate the X-plane or FSX levels against the Pilot Edge client.
