In V-2: SNA to ONT in the Baron video, Keith switched from tower to Departure in a section of the video that must have been edited out. I was watching it a second time to try and see when it is appropriate to contact Departure after take off.

1. Does tower request you to make the change and Departure?
2. Do they just approve a frequency change knowing you will need it?
3. Or do you change to Departure on your own after leaving the dotted Class D circle?

You're right, this was edited out (can't remember why I did that now, sorry).

The answer is #1 in cases where you've coordinated flight following while on the ground (which is the point of the V-2 rating).

#3 isn't applicable because we're not departing a Class D airport.
