Proper names on initial contact

Here's a question that's always been on the back of my mind... I think I read somewhere that there is a "proper" name listed for the controllers... IE LAX would obviously be Los Angeles Ground/Tower/Etc, but I have heard of a few that aren't so obvious.. Quick example, General William J Fox Field. Is anything that identifies them kosher? Fox Tower, William Fox Tower, etc? Or is there a prescribed name for each airport?

The AFD will list this information. You can also look at http://www.airnav.com, and in the "Airport Communications" section, you will see the correct name for each position.

In addition, the IAPs (like an Airport Diagram) will also list the correct name for each control position.

I must be missing it in the A/FD. here is an example. Columbia Metropolitan is my home airport, yet it is referred to as Columbia tower/ground/etc. Here is the A/FD.

Is there more than one AFD? I know aviation has its fair share of acronyms. Now i don't know what you're talking about, Keith!

Do you see above the airport overview in the A/FD "AD"? That means there is an Airport Diagram for that airport.

In the list of communication information in the top left corner, you can see the name of the control positions.

I see it now. "Columbia" tower obviously translates to the other positions. I was looking for some sort of list similar to the airnav site. Thanks!
