Hats off to Kevin Meyers for coming up with this format...he did all of the work.
My apologies for the recordings being out of action, I would've loved to have heard them! I've been attending a family wedding down in Texas (just about to head to the after party, in fact). I did watch the traffic levels on and off when I could today, looked quite successful. If I'd sent the newsletter out a little sooner, we might have even gotten more, but this looked like a success as it was.
I will commit to trying to get more events done on a regular basis. Every time we hold old (and it's been a while, I'll admit), they seem to go quite well.
Sorry the recorders were out of action. They've been out since Friday, apparently, but I didn't know until I saw the FB post today. I just restarted them now.
Thanks for attending the event, for those that were able to make it!
Congratulations to Kevin for coming up with the idea.
Just looking ahead, would say a similar event, the first Saturday of each month, be an idea? The time slots for each leg seemed to have the desired effect of creating congestion. There was something there for everyone. Looking forward to the next one!!!!!
Although I was unable to participate in the whole event I landing at OXR was a great experience. I had three pilots holding short of rwy 25 waiting for take off and I had to hold on taxiway for another taxiing aircraft.
I even contacted Tower Controller again, just before landing to make sure there is no departing traffic.
It was FUN! Cheers, AJ
I, too, had a great time! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
Thanks to my colleagues for their awesome work and effort, too! It was a pleasure working next to you guys.
Riverside got pretty busy and I had to have spoken nonstop for a good 40 min or so! There were four aircraft of different types all in the pattern while there was a continuous flow of inbound and outbound flights. And to further had to the fun, I had a V1 checkride at SNA!
Definitely had a cup of coffee after this event! Lots of fun!

I had a blast at RAL yesterday! The Riverside Airshow was yesterday so I had flown in with our Air Northwest Tuna Works Museum Curtiss SB2C Helldiver to do some rides. It got a little hairy for a bit when I was coming in on one of my touch and go's and I could see the departing Cessna and I could tell I was much faster and about to fly under it when Tower turned me crosswind. I suppose I knew better and should have turned crosswind on my own.
I think it would be cool to organize an airshow on PE. Real world airport ops come to a halt when there's an airshow and that would have done away with any near incursions like I had. Also, the traffic pattern at an airshow is such that the audience can always see the aircraft. I was in a left traffic pattern but if it had been real world I would have been doing right traffic to stay in front of the audience. I should have asked for right traffic if I had been thinking!
I know it might be a lot to ask, but what do you think of setting up an airshow to mirror a real world airshow? There's one coming up at CNO, Planes of Fame Airshow 2013 on May 4th and 5th. The only problem would be making sure everyone had the correct CSL files so the planes show up as they should, rather than as the 172 I was appearing. We'd need to have the airspace closed to other traffic, but it might be fun to see some of you guys and girls doing aerobatics or even just fly-bys. Thoughts?

People should get what they want when they want it once in a while. Keeps them optimisitic.
To all ATC and pilots,
I prepped for a couple of evenings to get ready for this event, printing out all the airport diagrams, flight plans(using myflightroute), using sky vector, writing down all the possible frequencies that ay be required...etc, etc.
I too, had a great time yesterday. I flew from KOXR to KRNM stopping at each airport along the way. I used the all the TEC routes as suggested. I was thrown a couple of obstacle procedure departures, which I would have never known about if I did not attend the workshops. I also chuckled to myself when waiting for clearance to KWHP. Everyone ahead of me was using the TEC route, so when it came to my turn for clearance I already new exactly what to expect! That had to be the easiest clearance of my life!! It was great to be in the Conga line and watch everyone departing and arriving(AJ).
The controllers are great as always, but today I thought they were simply amazing with the amount of workload that they had. At one point I checked and there were 18 pilots on the network...did it ever get above that number?
Good times... I flew from KSZP vfr to KOXR, called Mr San-impossible-to-say-your-lastname with a popup inbound - he did great. Then departed OXR to WHP with the rest of the group in my superb RV7A. Went WHP to RAL in the same thing, then tore up the visual pattern in the RV7A (I filed as HXB)... and drove Mr San-impossible-to-say-your-lastname insane while a few others joined me in the pattern. Of course I wish my PE showed Mr. Winslow's SB2C as a SB2C and not a C172 lol! Mr. S was probably annoyed by the time I kep saying "68C has the Cessna in sight, will follow." Needless to say he did awesome and got me in for a few short approaches to T+G... I'm always a fan of those! Then I switched to XP10, flying as Bonanza 24242 (yes it is a annoying real world callsign flown by a local C172 here in Duluth), and attempted to go to KFUL IFR. What a disaster lol... I nearly landed at KSLI, then was totally lost on the visual approach clearance, and was too lazy to switch back to socal to get revectored into KFUL... and then the wonderful FUL tower suggested a 060 heading for the downwind leg (THANKS!). I landed safely.
Anyway fun event - I enjoyed conflicting with as many pilots as possible muwahah!
