ATIS over heaphones in X-Plane?

I was wondering if I can get the ATIS over my headphones like I do for PilotEdge ATC?
I'm running X-Plane 10 and I like to run the airplane sounds though my exterior sounds system and wear my D&C's for all the radio traffic. The simulated ATIS is OK in X-plane (there is no alternative right?) but is difficult to hear with my headset on and the plane roaring away. It seems like it would be much more realistic to hear the ATIS over the headset as well so I can turn off the text version and force myself to write it down as I would in real life.
Thanks!

X-Plane's ATIS audio gets played over the default playback device. There is no way to change that as far as I know. Your only recourse would be to make the headset be your default playback device, but that would result in engine noise being played over the headset. You can mitigate the problems associated with that by simply reducing the engine noise volume in the X-Plane Sounds window.

Darn, I was afraid of that. I wish we could do ATIS through PilotEdge. It would be so much better!!
I realize that people like to fly with their own weather though.....
Perhaps there is a way to write a plugin that reads the automated ATIS on the local machine and reads it back through PilotEdge?

A cleaner solution would be to have X-Plane route ATIS over a different playback device. It's a feature request I can make with Austin.
You could actually achieve this now with a two machine setup. Have the master route audio to headset (running PE), then have the external visual machine generate the engine/ambient noise.

That would be better. Thanks!
I'd like to stay away form the 2 machine approach if possible. Our production simulators come with one machine and adding another is a huge headache!
BTW, this is what we make:
www.cxcsimulations.com We are currently working on our flight addons to incorporate PilotEdge for pilot customers. It's a highly requested feature for us.

I'm pretty sure my ATIS comes through my DC headset on Com2 and/or Com1. I'm flying on a MacBook Pro and I use the Flight Sound X USB adapter to plug my headset into the Mac. I have all my engine sounds coming through my built-in headphone jack and my Com1 and Com2 radios coming through my headset. I'm not sure how that works, but I'll check it out tonight and let you know my settings. I may be totally mistaken, but I'm pretty sure my ATIS comes through my headset. You can check out the Flight Sound X adapter at the link below. Not sure if there are any US dealers, but I didn't have any issues getting it.

Steve, I'd be pretty shocked, because your USB adapter is just another sound device. X-Plane sends the ATIS and engine noise to the same device....there is no provision for separating them that I'm aware of. Give it another try.
Chris, if you're interested in bundling PilotEdge with your sims and need any more information, let me know.

Keith, I was hoping to shock you with news that ATIS comes in over my headphones, but you are right. It doesn't. It does indeed come in over Com2, but it goes to my external speakers and not my headset. That's what I get for having not flown on PE for a while. I just didn't recall correctly.

Hi Keith,
Just joining PE and I'm very excited to use the service. I'm going through a lot of posts to come up to speed. I came across this issue during my configuration/setup and found this post and wanted to check-in to see if you had a discussion with Austin and if this feature request is possible for them to separate out the ATIS audio from the Engine audio such that we can get ATIS through the headset?
I have a Touch Trainer and have it setup to use external speakers for engine noise and Aviation headsets for ATC. Having ATIS come through the external speakers is just not ideal. Certainly not a big deal and I'll work with it but it would be great if they could update X-Plane to separate out the audio.
EDIT: I'm using X-Plane 10.20, 64-bit.
Thanks,
Mike
