Strange sound issue

I'm going to be posting the same question to the folks at MilViz.

I just signed up for PE and did a test flight (closed pattern) at KPSP in the MilViz Cessna 310 on P3D. My sound was already setup so that ATC sounds are heard only through my headset and all other sounds are heard through my monitor speakers.

What wax strange is when I turned on the master power switch I could hear a loud humming sound in my headphones, but all other aircraft sounds were heard through my speakers. ATC was coming through just fine, but the constant humming (almost like the sound of gyros spinning) really distracted me from hearing ATC a few times.

Anywsy, I'm just curious if anyone else using the MilViz 310, or any other aircraft, had a similar experience.

Thanks!

Todd

My guess is that the humming associated with the power switch is being generated through custom code which ignores your audio device setting in FSX and just uses the default playback device. Since you've set that to the headset, that's where it came from. You can reduce that volume by using the Windows 7 mixer and reducing the volume associated with the P3D/FSX application.

It is a coding thing. The guys at MilViz say the cockpit sounds operate outside FSX/P3D. Interesting, yet a bummer, because I really like the 310.

More sound issues. The past few flights, when I do my radio check, the feedback I am getting is my voice is 5x2/voice garbled (not sure what 5x2 is). So, I basically have to disconnect and not fly, as no one can understand me. My internet signal is fine, and I have no issues when using Teamspeak. The strange thing is when Keith help me set up Pilot Edge, my radio check was loud and clear. The very next day, I did a test flight (closed traffic) at KPSP in the MilViz C310 and had no issues (except the cockpit sound issue which is something I'll just have to live with). It seems my problems have occurred since my test flight. The first flight I had issues was in the C310, and I know I tried different sound and speaker settings, so maybe I did something there, but I can't think of what it is. I've tried different USB slots on the front and back of my computer (USB3.0 and 2.0) and nothing is different. So, I'm at a complete loss.

Just some technical specs: Prepar3D v1.4, Plantronics Starset H31 USB headset, Windows 7 64-bit

Windows 7 sound settings: Playback device = headset; recording device = headset

P3D sound: Primary playback device = NVidia video card; voice playback device = default communications device ; voice capture device = default communications device

Any help is much, much appreciated.

G,day Todd,

5 by 5. Or. In your case 5 x 2 means signal strength and readability.

5 - your comms loud

By

2 - your readability is not good. ( explanation, " garbled " )

Thank you for clarifying that, Merv. Would that help to at least hone in on what the issue is?

The sound issue has been resolved. I discovered it was a headset issue that was easily fixed.
