server relocation tonight

We've noticed a disturbing trend of people getting disconnected over the last few months. It's been happening to controllers, too. At first I thought it was related to server load (which runs high sometimes due to an issue with the drone program). However, we've ruled that out as a possibility.

The issue seems to be random disconnects that appear to come in waves, making it hard for certain pilots to remain connected (while everyone else is unaffected). There is something going on at a networking level somewhere outside of our data center. I actually recall a case where two controllers (who live in close proximity) were disconnected while everyone else remained online.

I'm going to revert back to our previous server at the office location for the time being while we locate another service provider for our core server. The web site and forum will remain where they are (hosted by a separate provider). This change will take place after close of business tonight in time for the opening on Saturday morning (PDT).

If anyone experiences any difficulty connecting to the server on Saturday or viewing the online map, post a note here or drop a note to support@pilotedge.net

I expect the disconnect issues to mostly subside after this. It will mean we are somewhat vulnerable to weather issues in northern NJ, but I think we'll generally be better off until we locate another provider.

This is completed. I left the voice server where it is for now as it is not connection-based and hasn't been exhibiting the issues. If anyone is still seeing continuous disconnects from 8/24/13 onwards, please let me know.
