IFR Flight Plans (Tech Routes)

In the real world is it legal to enter a flight plan just as the tech route?
ie in the route field just entering in "VTUN26" as the route, instead of spelling out every waypoint?
I've noticed that sometimes when I enter in just the tech route in the flight plan in Pilot Edge some get re-written as the entire waypointed route, so I wanted to make sure that I'm filling out fight plans accurately.
Thanks!

It's 100% ok to use the TEC route code in filing flight plans.
However, the controllers don't know what route each TEC route corresponds to (there are a lot of them) and as we need to have a way to know your exact route in an instant we will change your route to read the actual route. We can do this in about a second thanks to our software's ability so it doesn't really take any work.

If you look up Skywest flights on flightaware.com, you'll notice that a number of them show just the TEC route if they're operating between major ZLA airports. However, many of the altitudes they file don't correspond with the TEC route altitude for their aircraft type, which must be some part of an agreement that the carrier has with LA Center or SoCal approach.

Awesome! Thanks for the information!
I just wanted to make sure I was filing my flight plans properly and not generating a bunch of extra work for a controller.
Thanks!

I flew CSTN1 tonight (practicing I-3) and see that
PE Aware map didn't pick up the waypoints from the TEC route.
So is this the downside to simply filing "CSTN1" rather than "SLI V23 POPPR SMO125R SMO SMO311R SILEX"?

Controllers will automatically replace the tech ID with the appropriate waypoints in the route. If you file the tech ID only, I imagine PE Aware should pick up the amendment on our side of the changed routing.
