Spotting Traffic

How far away can you see traffic without having the aircraft labels turned on? For me, it's maybe a mile to a mile and a half. I have learned that I have to map a button on my joystick that will turn labels on and off as I really don't like to have them on at all. I've tried changing the default lights to Shockwave Lights to see if I might be able to catch those from afar but that didn't work. I'm interested in hearing how far you can see.

Yeah I usually use labels because of the rendering in FSX I find it way too tough to see planes unless I'm in formation lol.

In real life it can be tough as well but I've had better luck IRL seeing.

Using XP10 it's easier because the lights really bloom even in the daytime... so maybe a little unrealistic in XP as well but on the flip side of things.

At night in both sims seems about right... maybe XP a tad too bright.

The nextgen CSL's for Xplane use the real XP10 lighting, so that will resolve the XP lighting.

For daytime, FSX doesn't render aircraft very well at any kind of distance, so they can be harder to see.
