Departing VFR from Class B airports is allowed as long as you receive a VFR clearance out of the airport. The only difference between PE and the real world is that the big international airports charge you a good amount of money to land.

Interesting this wording you're using: "VFR clearance". That is something that I never got to fully understand and now I'm even more confused. When I depart from a B or C like John Wayne I'm supposed to contact Clearance to state my intentions and get a squawk code. Is that actually a "VFR clearance" in the same way as we understand an IFR clearance but without so many restrictions? I remember that on one of my first flights in PE I was sitting at a Class C airport (can't remember which) and asked the controller for a VFR clearance, departure to the southeast or wherever, and his reply was "there is no such thing".

Sorry about that, I was speaking using a colloquialism. Remember that to enter a Class B airport, you need permission and you'll be assigned a discreet squawk code. It'll be the same as you exit from the airport surface area. They need to give you permission out of the area. Since Class B + C's have higher than usual traffic levels, the initial instructions that you're assigned are there so the departure controller can safely facilitate your exit out of the airspace.

The instructions you receive out of Class C and Class B airports are really just "departure instructions" rather than a "clearance." The term "VFR clearance" is still used rampantly throughout real world aviation and on PilotEdge, but I've been trying to use the term "VFR departure instructions" instead to further emphasize this point.
