RNAV approach question

If an RNAV approach depicts a holding pattern at the IF/FAF, and there's no need for a course reversal, are you still required to do the hold procedure if "Cleared for approach"?

The AIM 5-4-6 e. 6&7 certainly makes it seem like you do, unless your're "Cleared for straight in approach".

Any help clearing up this workplace discussion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The procedure turn (or HILPT) is required unless:
- you're being vectored to final approach course, or
- timed approaches are in use, or
- you're on a segment marked NoPT, or
- you're cleared for a straight-in approach by ATC
