I was flying VFR through the Bay Area today, with flight following, and I heard the commercial pilots talking to ATC about their 'lines', seemingly in reference to direction and altitude. What were they talking about?

'lines' are a series of routes of flights. Pilots bid on these lines and are awarded the lines based on seniority.
