Just wanted some advice on a good IRF plane as I'm about to start the ratings, I have the duke b60 , and the milviz 310 but the duke can't use the rxp avionics , whereas the milviz can accept mindstar and the new flight1 units. Any other recommendations? A king air perhaps? needs to be p3d compatible!

P3D is still semi-new.... but you could always fly the Duke and use a popup F1 GTN unit... Or I think the Majestic Dash 8 now works in P3D. There's the Milviz B737-200 combi - one with FMS and one without if you prefer good ole /A flying.

I think if you really want to be RNAV (GPS) or FMS capable you need planes with navigraph support or use the Milviz Beech/C310 with GTN integration. Or buy the Milviz B350i beta which uses the same FMS that their B732 uses (navigraph capable)

I am thinking of the 310 with the GTN integration, seem's like a really good plane anyway, I just wish I could have the duke with the mindstar or gtn units, that would be perfect!!!

Probably not what you are looking for, but I've been using the P3D Carenado King Air B200 recently...but treating it as /A since the default GPS in P3D/FSX is half-baked. It is a fun challenge.

Maybe thats the way to go full analogue, good way to learn !!!

I usually fly the A2A PA28, but also the Carenado C206H at times. The 206 has a better autopilot, but I feel like the PA28 is a better flight model.

Since my real-world Cherokee 180C is a /A, that's how I fly them in P3D and PilotEdge.

I started IFR training before the proliferation of GPS (then got married, had kids, and ran out of money, so I haven't finished my IFR...yet ) GPS can be incredibly beneficial for situational awareness. And it appears that technology may finally be having a positive impact on GA accident stats. I can't help but think, though, that developing a solid instrument scan on steam gauges, hand flying, and really understanding VOR navigation is not only more fun than following that magenta line, but really helps develop a level of instrument proficiency that you may miss out if you start with GPS and a bunch of automation. But this is coming from a rusty non-instrument rated pilot, so what do I know?!

you know a lot more than me Chris ! I have ditched the fancy GPS for the moment, although I'm still cheating a little with foreflight which is just amazing !

It sure is amazing, but you should stop cheating with that as well, IMHO. Use it for charts and plates, but disable the GPS if you can. That is a great way to build confidence in your instrument interpretation skills. You can add the GPS later. Try a whole flight with low IFR using 2 VOR's or VOR and DME, it's a big confidence builder when you nail it.

The Carenado C337 is a very nice IFR platform and the Mindstar units integrate perfectly. The Milviz C310 is also excellent. Check out the Milviz KA 350i. It's still alpha but very capable and fun to fly.
