PE Aware

Interesting to look at PE Aware after some pattern work. Knowing that I had flown pretty good headings round the pattern in two planes (3 landings in each), I was amazed to see the red lines making it look like I had (at times) flown a diamond or some other very distorted path. Over longer distance flights, the path usually looks like what was flown, but these tracks looked insane tonight

I've kinda chalked it up to the sampling rate used for the PE Aware map plotting -- from the posted points adjacent to flight path, it appears the sample plotted on the map is only one point per every 60 seconds, and the line drawn between the two points. On most any closed pattern, what I've seen on PE aware, is fairly crude compared to what shows on the FSX map. (I assume XPlane has a similar "flight analysis map").

Yes, it's a result of the sampling rate. peaware isn't useful for analysis of pattern work or holds.

Thanks to both of you. I knew my work was OK, but that analysis was a bit of a head-scratcher! If I'd flown a RW pattern like that analysis, I'd be giving up flying

Donovan, X-Plane does have your flight path on their map, but I never looked at it!

Another postmortem perspective on your flight is to take the PEAware link and copy/paste it into MyFlightRoute.com's analyzer.

You won't get any additional data points (obviously), but it is nice to the same points over the actual VFR/TAC or IFR charts available on Skyvector.

I only mention it in case you weren't aware of this feature on MFR.

Another super cool tool that let you analyse your flights, is the REC function of ForeFlight. If you use that software, make sure you hit the REC button and forget it. Once you have finished your flight hit the button again and then go to the track area and you can see your precise track in full 3D over google earth with really great precision. I think that is super cool and very useful, specially when you have some crosswind or when analysing turns around a point, course reversals, holdings, "S" around a line, traffic patterns, etc. really cool.
