question on published ils approaches

I have been flying most of the day and always given vectors for the ils approaches. Can I request the published procedures on approach so I can let my gns530 follow the waypoints rather than vectors around them? For example...ils 24 approach into ksrq via ocn transition and follow waypoints in without needing heading directions from atc?

On a side note after 8 hours of flying I just love love love you guys. So much fun! My approach into ksna was at peak time and I had a lot of aircraft I had to sight. Was so cool to see so many out there. Even watched a t-38 shoot approach right behind me!

Glad you're enjoying it. You should consider going through our training program, it covers topics just like this one (the I-6 specifically).

To answer your question, yes, you can request the full approach. Just tell the controller which feeder or IAF you'd like to use to start the approach ahead of time and traffic-permitting, they will oblige.

I have a question in line with this thread. When is the right time to ask for a specific approach? You can't file an approach, right? I think I have deduced that when I first get passed to an approach controller I should request the approach I want but is there an earlier time I should bring it up?

The time to request a specific approach would be at the time that the controller tells you to expect an approach other than the one you want.
