I am having the hardest time hearing ATC. I've made sure that I have adequate bandwidth. As far as I can tell the server doesn't seem to be too busy. What's the deal?

"having trouble hearing" doesn't quite provide enough information to help you out. Is it a volume issue or is it breaking up due to bandwidth?

It might also help us to help you if you mentioned.
  • what sim you are using?
  • what OS the sim is running upon?
  • What kind of audio device you are using? IE analog or USB
  • Have you tried turning down the engine sounds in your sim?
Where are you parked at (airport) and which frequency tuned to?

If you just monitor the radio can you hear other people talking through your sim set up?

If you run the PilotEdge receiver on a different PC, can you hear other people taking on the network? Can you hear yourself performing a radio check?

If using the PilotEdge receiver on the SAME PC, can you hear other people talking using the same headset/speakers?

As Keith has mentioned, much more information is needed to start trouble shooting.

Sorry I should have included a lot more information. I am using X-Plane 10, Windows 7, a USB headset, and yes I've turned down the engine sounds. It's almost as if I were just slightly out of range, the audio tends to breakup and becomes unintelligible. At the time (20:30EST 1/27/15) I was parked at KBUR and listening on 118.0.

Range is not the issue. The system doesn't degrade the audio quality (yet) as your approach the limits of the reception distance. If it was breaking up, it was a bandwidth issue.

Try listening to the recordings. If your voice transmissions break up, it's likely it was bandwidth on your end. If everything is clear on the recordings, it might have been a bandwidth issue on our end. Or, it might have been a bandwidth issue for the controller. These issues occur, but are rare.

I'm also going to be swapping to another facility for the hosting which should have considerably better bandwidth.

Hows your mic in Windows? Can you record sound normally and play it back? Is it clear and good volume?
