KLAX arrival and departures

When you listen to the KLAX tower on LiveATC.net or watch KLAX on Flightradar24 you can't help but notice the KLAX arrival and departure corridors are always very busy. Wondering whether through the use of drones this could be replicated on the network somehow.

Regards,

David

I was watching a Peter Grey livestream and I ended up asking a similar question. He told the viewers that the drones were strategically placed to be "in the way" of specific approach procedures or nav paths of the ratings.

I wonder if the ratings change will change the drones too.

I've sometimes lamented that the drones don't run the approaches or departures at the big airports. How would you manage the comms with a drone? If you and a drone are on the ILS25R at KLAX, you're getting comms like "Southwest 123, slow to final approach speed, #2 behind the United Airbus, contact tower at..." But the drone is a drone and you won't get any of their comms for realism or such.

Thoughts as to how this would work?

There are ways and mean of doing so but they would involve some caveats of course. I think the advantages of doing this would far outweigh the disadvantages. Would love to hear Peter or Keith's opinion on this though. If its not possible or would put a huge amount of workload on controllers then clearly its a non starter but hopefully its something they would consider now the network is growing.

it has been discussed in the forums a few times. when I get to my hotel I'll try to find the threads and link to them.

short version: I'm not comfortable having drones in airspace where comms with atc would be required.

the solution is more live traffic at those fields. we are working on a project which might bring more jets, can't say more than that yet as it's not a certainty.

Come on Keith - You are always dangling the proverbial carrot in front of our faces!!!

Well, Carrot Dangler was my stage name in the 80's...

I know it's cruel (and sometimes foolhardy) to reference future projects before they are concrete but I only mentioned it as a reason for not pursuing the "AI-traffic at large airports" solution.

One caveat, even if this project goes ahead, I don't expect a steady stream of arrivals at LAX or anything close to real world traffic levels. I would expect it to be non-existent, though, which is almost where we're at right now.

Can understand where you are coming from Keith but would be lovely to have a nice flow of aircraft in and out of KLAX.

David, I personally would see AI traffic at towered airports (especially large airports) as an increasing hindrance as the network continues to grow (as discussed in other threads). PE has never claimed to replicate the "chaos" at LAX - it's goal is to provide professional ATC for student pilots and training institutions (with us simmers on the side). Controllers wouldn't be able to talk to AI, direct them (without a drastic increase in workload), or be able to provide proper separation services. That would mean a decease in "realism", professionalism, and cause worrying for everyone. Would it be nice to have more traffic at LAX? Sure. Necessary for training and for a fun and productive "learning environment"? Not really. To each their own.

I believe what and where the drones are make perfect sense as they are now. Though this reminds me of a question I've meant to ask someone on PE staff...

What's the rules on advertising PilotEdge elsewhere? I'm not talking about anything extensive but like having a signature we use in other flight Sim forums that links back to PilotEdge main page. I know you have to be careful on what you allow us to do due to public perception, I would rather play it safe. Any disclaimers you'd want us to state for stream and video work?

In the end, more pilots equal the perfect solution to this entire thread. I greatly believe in what you've done so far Keith and would love to help the community grow.
