is it possible for the PilotEdge PlugIn to display a transparent block indicating connection status?

i've had some flights recently, where i'd lose my PilotEdge connection. i didn't realize for a while since, maybe ATC was slow, so maybe not enough communication. i'd check my frequency to ensure i'm still on last assigned.

it doesn't happen often, but now i find myself checking to see if i'm connected, if it's too quiet for too long.

There are 4 options here:
1) turn on text-bsaed ATC. A message is displayed when you connect or disconnect to/from PilotEdge
2) you can use the DataRefEditor plugin to monitor the status of the pilotedge dataref which indicates connection status
3) you can write a plugin to monitor and display the status of the dataref with a more subtle visual indicator
4) you can keep the PilotEdge map running in a browser on a separate screen. If you don't see yourself in the list of callsigns on the right, then you're not connected to the network.

option 4 i'd have to toggle screens, or sacrifice real estate. maybe if i hook up a 2nd pc. that's possible.
option 3, write a plugin?? that's only for the smart ones...
option 2, sounds alot like option 3, but still have to click on something else to see something else to let me know what i don't know.

for me, looks like option 1 is it! hopefully someone out there can create option 2!

Option 2 doesn't require any action once it's been setup. The DataRefEditor is an existing plugin, it lets you monitor the state of any dataref. We publish a dataref which indicates whether you are connected or not.

Now that I think about it, option 3 does exist...I think someone created a plugin to draw the tx/rx/connect status on the screen. If anyone can find the forum topic, feel free to link to it.

ian, the latest version of the FTS software shows TX/RX status in the garmin 430/530 if you're interested, too. It also updates the callsign placard with your currently connected callsign on PE.
