Just curious...

Has the idea of a real world IFR training subforum here ever been considered? Just a thought. If there was, it could steer a lot of RW non-sim pilots here.

I'm about to begin mine in January, and will be using PE quite a bit to learn as much as possible when the money meter isn't spinning... PE should be REALLY useful with my training being out of SEE and MYF.

Thanks again to the PE staff for all the help, and of course the community for all the info!

I initially read your post as talking about a subforum for the Real World IFR video series - which exists: viewforum.php?f=47

But after actually comprehending your post, I see you mean a subforum for flight training. Might be fun, not sure how much traffic it would get. There aren't any rules limiting discussion of real world flying in the Pilots or General forums that exist.

Ron, there are already places like Pilots of America's IFR forum which have a large r/w IFR community.

I'd say go ahead and post anything you like in this forum (the PE Pilots forum) on the topic of r/w IFR flight. If there is sufficient traffic, we can split it off into its own forum, but it's very likely that posts about r/w IFR flying would be well-received by the sim community, so I don't see a need to segregate it for now.

Good luck on your IFR training. While it is a nice coincidence that you fly out of Socal, I can tell you with certainty that it really doesn't matter where you're doing your flight training in the r/w....the route structure in Socal is sufficiently complicated that flying on PE will prepare you to fly anywhere in the country. I've flown all up and down the east coast including the NE corridor and can say with certainty that if you can digest the Socal airspace, you're in good shape to fly anywhere in the country
