Are there any problems connecting a joystick with Ubuntu 15.10 64bits and XPlane 9?

A couple of questions. Will X-plane 9 work with a 64bit OS? Honestly I didn't think that it would unless all of the 32bit libraries were symbolic re-directed.

Why not X-plane 10?

I have been able to get X-plane 10 to work on Unbuntu 64bit with PE.

For flight hardware:

• Saitek pro flight yoke
• Saitek throttle
• Saitek rudder pedals
• Saitek radio panel. Requires Xsaitekpanels.
• PE client
• Nvidia graphics is recommended for the much better Linux driver support.

I did have to modify the tables so that Unbuntu would work with the Saitek USB devices (permission issue). Several USB devices were added without problems and others not. Once the USB tables were updated no real problems.

I was able to find the instructions on how to do it on the Forums. I believe that I still have the notes somewhere as well.

I'm not a Linux expert. However if asked to guess I suspect there will be a ton more issues getting a 32 bit program such as X-plane 9 to work on a 64 bit OS. If this were me, I would use a 32 bit Linux running in address extension mode (if x-plane 9 is a requirement). This offers a way to use more than 4 GB of memory and give more memory to the application.

IMO the better idea is to run a 64 bit Linux OS and 64 bit X-plane 10.

Also note that through the different release levels of X-plane 10 it's much easier to run it now on Linux than before. When I first started testing there were TONS of symbolic library pointers that had to be added. For today's X-plane, there are none.
