Does one need to file a flight plan in order for the flight to be logged on PEaware??

Yes, to be logged into PEaware the following must be true:

1. You file a flight plan of any kind or have a controller input a flight plan for you. For the entire fight to be captured this must be done before takeoff, however if you file airborne PEaware will capture everything from when you file the flight plan.
2. You land at the destination listed in the flight plan.
3. You are on the ground at your destination long enough for PEaware to "capture" the fact you have landed (generally 1 minute).

Yes and no.

If you simply go to your alternate without amending your flight plan it won't log it.

If you amend your flight plan to put your alternate in the destination filed it will log it, but only from the point where you made the flight plan change (everything before that will be erased).

I'm trying to rework the CSL matching in the PE plugin, supplementing the CSLs with ones from the ORG download site. Is it possible to get a "top 20" list of aircraft and airlines? I was going to use this to narrow down the most commonly used planes and callsigns to prevent downloading way too many options.

Sure, see here. I excluded 'N' and 'C' from the "carrier" since they're private (and would otherwise be at the top of the list).

That will hit the most common ones. I'll see what I can find on the ORG and modify some files, post instructions in another thread.

Bear in mind, those will be old school CSLs that don't take advantage of the new HD CSL format that we use. That means there will be low res textures, with no animations, shadows or realistic lighting.

What I was going to do first was pull the XSB_aircraft.txt files and make sure the basic model matching was working, then find some CSLs on the ORG that might work. Mainly, I wanted to clean up the folders and make two sets--one HD and one standard, and see what came out. The list of common aircraft helps focus it.

My big motivation comes from the fact I'm tired of seeing a B1900 when I should be seeing a BE58 (easy fix). The airlines I'd likely do as HD since the FJS 732 is an adequate stand-in for all of the 737 variants.

The fix should be to install the Baron HD CSL in the CSL folder (not a sub folder).
