Question for ATC re: requesting clearance

Hello,
Question:
If I am doing pattern work at KSNA, then exit the runway and am holding on one of the taxiways, can I call clearance and request, for example, VFR advisories to Ontario while sitting on the taxiway? Or do I have to request taxi back to parking then call clearance?
Thank you,
Jiva

If you're on an active taxiway, just make your VFR departure request with the ground controller in this situation. You can't switch to the clearance delivery controller on a taxiway unless the ground controller specifically asks you to (which would probably never happen).
That said, if you're flying around in the pattern and want to make a VFR departure out of the pattern, you can make that request with the tower controller in the air as well and he/she can issue departure instructions to you while you're in the air and that would save you from having to taxi at all.

State your request to depart with the tower as soon as practical, even before landing. The tower will tell you whom to contact. Arriving aircraft should never change frequencies after landing, except when advised to do so by the tower. (This includes switching to ground without permission.)
