Hello. When there is no TEC route available. Anyone have a good flight planner who is useful.
Like a route from 8ca5 to KGCN ?

If I remember correctly... non-TEC route flight planning is covered in this video. http://www.pilotedge.net/workshops/ifr- ... tec-routes

When I'm not sure what to file...

I go to PEaware.pilotedge.net . You can do a Citypair search, and look at other flights that have been flown between those destinations..

See what they filed, and how they actually flew it. I'm pretty sure they do the same thing with Flightaware in the real world...

At first, why re-invent the wheel?

I read an article a while ago about not getting what you filed... The most common routes are approved for a reason, such as keeping GA aircraft away from airspace used by commercial carriers. If you go with the flight plan flow, your plan is more likely to be approved 'As Filed'.

This allows you to plan ahead, thinking through navaid tuning, cruise altitudes and speeds, etc, lowering pilot workload. I suspect it reduces controller workload as well, and they can think ahead, which makes EVERYTHING run smoothly.

Be ready, as always to be thrown a curve though. That's when I, invariably get in to hot water.

Good luck, and fly safe!
