Good evening...I have been using PE for about a month and I am a student-pilot based in Northern Illinois just outside the Chicago airspace. I applaud all the efforts of everyone at PE and have been talking up the product to anyone that will listen. One question I do have is what is the protocol for the frequencies when flying with PE. Does PE use real-world frequencies found on sectionals, Airport Facility directory, etc? I have been having a slight problem with not having the "proper" frequency when contacting ground, approach, etc. I apologize if this has been answered in other areas of the forum but I have searched and have had no luck finding the answer.

Yes, always use the real world frequencies. You can use sources like Skyvector to find Sectionals, TAC and airport charts.

Whatever you would use to find the right frequency in real world, use that here.

Thanks so much...I had an "aha" moment and realized I should just use my iPad with Garmin Pilot and that would give me what I needed. Thanks for the response.

Hi, I am a complete newb that doesn't really know what's going on half the time and was wondering about your post.

You mentioned having called ATC in the past but having the wrong frequencies...

So where were you getting them from (if not from real world sources)? This made me wonder how clueless I may in fact be.

MyFlightRoute is a great tool. If you use the CRAFT page on that site you can pull up the Airport Diagram, SID, STAR, and Approach Plates all off that site. Plus get the weather. Obviously Skyvector's a great tool for that as well, but I personally think MFR is a solid one stop shop.

When you’re ready to go, just do exactly what you’d do in a real aircraft:

...Set the Comm radio to the appropriate frequency (Delivery, Ground, or Tower).

I found this on day one here on PE and haven't ever had any problems finding exactly what I need (just VFR for now).

I am almost embarrassed to admit but in my sim I use the GTN 750 and forgot to update the database. Now all is well, but I will use Gamin Pilot and hopefully be able to integrate directly into FSX as ForeFlight can.
