Departure after closed traffic clearance

I would like to fly VFR from XXXX to YYYY but I would like to do some pattern work before departure.
I contacted Clearance or Ground, I got assigned departure heading, altitude and squawk code according to class D, C or B airport.
Let's say I am cleared for closed traffic at XXX class D, C or B ( probably not very likely ) towered airport and I just started next round climbing out after stop and go.

Now, I would like to know when and how I ask for departure clearance.
Can I ask for departure clearance after receiving "cleared for the option" transmission or should I land, taxi to park and ask to taxi to active and departure?

Thank you for any input on above. Cheers, AJ

Nothing special here. I would just tell the controller on initial contact that you want to do a touch and go(or w/e option) and then depart the pattern to the N/S/W/E

Thank you, Brandon but what I meant was if I am flying more than one pattern, when do I ask Controller for departure, I thought it would be after "clear for the option" clearance. Cheers, AJ

Does it matter WHEN to ask? I was doing pattern work at KSBP and decided I wanted to fly out to the coast and back. On climb out after a touch and go, I asked for clearance to the west and was cleared right away and instructed to maintain VFR flight and contact tower when re-entering downwind. At least that's how I remember it happening. ;)

AJ,

In this case, you're over-thinking it. It doesn't matter much as to when you notify ATC about your intentions to leave the pattern, simply because whether you tell them on the downwind, base, short final, or the departure leg of the pattern, the outcome is the same. They'll tell you how they'd like you depart the pattern. It's that easy.

Thank you for all inputs, now it is time to test it on PE. :D Cheers. AJ
