Hi Fi voice quality...

Is there a reason we have hi-fi voice technology?

It was quite a shock the first time I came onto PE and the controller sounded as if he was sitting next to me - lol! It didn't sound like he was on a radio at all.

Why don't you use a processer to make the voice sound like radio?

Just a curious query.

The next version of the voice SDK that we use will add the ability to alter the sound quality through custom code. I plan to make use of that to support degraded audio comms, based on distance between transmitter/receiver.

Cool - while I can see the advantage of clear voice comms in a training environment, it's not too realistic. I don't do much radio work in my RW flying, but often it's difficult to hear. Mind you, I'm flying a Microlight with an open cockpit and a portable radio!
