Re: PMDG DC-6 Release 1 JUNE 2016
Hi, everyone. I'm Chris Powell, lead developer of the PMDG DC-6. We are really quite excited to be publishing this aircraft for you; it's been a tremendously enjoyable product to develop. This plane just has a lot of, well, soul . Whether it's an A-variant cargo dog in Everts livery, or a Pan Am ...

Re: The XP10 x64 Demo help?
Ryan, a few years ago I produced a freeware C172 in response to the very complaints you voice. All I did was take the stock XP 172 and 'tune' it until it behaved more like the real plane. I still hear frequent positive feedback from folks who tell me the new plane is much nicer to fly, so why not ...

iOS app for pilots: AlwaysNRST
(Treading a tad carefully here, as this is of course a sim-oriented board, albeit one populated with many folks who are certificated pilots. I secured Keith's go-ahead beforehand.)
In my 'day job' I'm a software developer. I've just released my second aviation-oriented app for iPhone & iPad that I ...

Re: How many are serious pilots?
I follow my real-world checklists when flying in X-Plane. But I do this because I fly X-Plane / PilotEdge for exactly one reason: to keep my instrument skills sharp.
Furthermore, I rigorously follow my flight-prep task list before each PE flight. These tasks include checking RAIM, reading NOTAMs ...

Re: [Sep 15] September Slam SBA-SNA/SMO 1-3p PDT
Definitely a lot of fun, great to hear all that traffic! Reminded me of the the real world around the Seattle area.
Had a fun little altitude excursion (and got called on it!) when the plane went into an uncommanded dive. Turns out that there's a "runaway elevator trim" malfunction in the X-Plane ...

AIM on ground transponder use
I subscribe to the FAA Safety Team emails, and today received an interesting one discussing ground transponder use. 4-1-20 of the AIM has been updated to read the following:
"Civil and military transponders should be turned to the “on" or normal altitude reporting position prior to moving on the ...

Re: Any MacOS 10.8.1 users?
I flew for about an hour the other night, and I'm on 10.8.1. I experienced no audio problems, nor did the controller mention anything.
Not much of a datapoint, but still.

ForeFlight promises to integrate with X-Plane 10.11
I think a lot of us here are ForeFlight users, whether in real aircraft or in X-Plane. Imagine my thrill when the 4.7 update that came out today mentioned:
Today we are happy to announce integration with X-Plane 10. ForeFlight and the makers of X-Plane collaborated to enable seamless, wireless ...

"Head tracking..." I know of this technology (TrackIR, etc.) but I've not had the opportunity to try it. In practice how well does it work/feel?

Re: Quality Payware C172 for X-Plane
I published a freeware 172SP that you might enjoy, based shamelessly on the stock XP 172. I found the stock X-Plane 172 flight model to be extraordinarily twitchy and sought to rectify it, as well as making the panel more closely resemble the real-world 172s that I did my IFR training in. (For me X ...
