Correct Departure/Approach Freqs

Post by wdhurley »

Where do I confirm the correct departure/approach frequencies? More times than not, if I depart an uncontrolled airport and key up on the listed departure frequency in the AFD or Foreflight, I do get approach, but as soon as they receive radar contact, they have me change to a different frequency. Is that correct procedure on my part, or should I be looking somewhere else for frequencies?

You're good. Our sectors are a little different than the real world splits. We combine a lot of positions and use less frequencies. we support the real world freqs if you cold call, but for our own sanity, we get you onto our freqs fairly quickly.

Our freqs are used in those areas real world, too, usually in adjacent sectors.

We will do a virtual tracon tour at some point so you can see all of this in action.

So, i'm good using the listed frequencies on initial contact then? Thanks! I thought foreflight was wrong and I was not very confident using it in R/W.

Yes, if the frequencies were flat out wrong, you probably wouldn't have received a response on PilotEdge. You can also review NACO charts, or sectional charts and see that the freqs there will match what you see in ForeFlight.

What might be 3-4 sectors with individual frequencies in real life, we handle as a single sector on PilotEdge, and in doing so, we have to pick which of the 3-4 freqs is going to be the one we use for that area. I hope that helps shed some light.
