Visual G - Forces... 2D or 3D Cockpits

Post by Calvin Waterbury »

How important is the modeling of G-Forces in an aircraft?

What about a 2D panel? Does anyone find it distracting like me, I.e., the view out the window can be bouncing around like BINGO balls, but the view of the panel is rock solid?

Thanks in advance for your input?

I've flown in some pretty hefty turbulence in real life, I don't really perceive any motion of the panel relative to me. That's because as the plane bobs up and down, so does my body, closely followed by my head. What DOES lag is my hand, though, if I'm reaching for a radio, making it hard to accurately push buttons or turn knobs.

I've never once found myself wishing for it in the sim, though.

Last time I flew in any bumpy weather (in AZ we get washboard air) the display on the instruments was bobbing about (horizon, rate of climb) as much as I was. I could still read 'em, same as if I was going over speed bumps in a car.
