What are the good fsx sceneries in PilotEdge areaq

Post by kamarad »

I saw that there were FSX versions of the KSNA and KONT airport (downloading now).

Is there any other airport or scenery that you know that can enhance the experience in PilotEdge area.

I have seen a couple of time the Socal scenery from Megascenery mentionned. Is this a worthwhile addition?

Megascenery Southern California is an excellent complement to PE, as is Megascenery Las Vegas -- both are very worthwhile additions.

You can also extend the Megascenery Socal area with freeware photo scenery http://www.blueskyscenery.com/download.html check out "California"

If you like flying GA VFR slow and low, consider Aerosoft's US Cities X Los Angeles. Be warned however, that you may suffer a performance hit, particularly near downtown Los Angeles. I particularly enjoy Catalina Island and its airport. But there are numerous improvements to the LA area including Long Beach, Santa Ana, Santa Monica and downtown LA.

If you go to avsim file libraries you'll find a lot of new afcad's for a bunch of the class C (and some D) airports... the textures and buildings are stock but they are moved around to align with current AFD's etc... and usually have up to date taxisigns yay!

I recommend searching via the ICAO like KLGB or type Long Beach

Obvously FSDreamTeam has payware KLAX and KLAS (amazing sceneries!) and per above Shez recently released his KONT and there's a really nice KSNA too that was an FS9 port to FSX native build.

Scenery-wise I use UTX with GEX and I'd recommend third party landclass of your choice aside from UTX (there's is decent in some areas, not in others)... whether it be Scenery Tech, Cloud 9, FSGenesis...

Isn't the problem with all of the photo overlays products or freeware -- including MegaScenery and BlueSky -- that when you're "low and slow" (as Steve Anderson said) that the ground warps/wraps/shifts and looks silly and distorted? In other words, they're lovely for flying high - beautiful even - but don't they ruin the experience when you're taking off, landing or taxiing around?

I'm just asking, because I'm interested in some good SoCal scenery too.... ?

Thanks.

I enjoy MegaSceneryX Socal with Pilotedge much more than without it. In flight it brings LA and the mountains to life. There is still autogen produced so you still get 3d objects placed on the ground (although not as much autogen as without MegaSceneryX Socal). It is fantastic if you like VFR flight with pilotage navigation. It does not create a 'flat' world. It simply places hi resolution photo textures over your terrain mesh. I have not noticed warping effects on approaches and I am not familiar with this problem on my system. You don't notice it when on the ground at airports. It does not cause a a significant performance hit. Check it out on You Tube.

Thanks Steve. Those were a pleasure to watch. Might put MS SoCal my shopping list after all.
