Flying PSP to REI, VFR without flight following.
There is a box stating "Contact Socal within 20nm on....." as you approach the Class E. On the face of it this is self explanatory.
My question arises as I am sure that I have previously "busted" the Class E when flying VFR, without flt following without being told of the error of my ways.
So the question is does this box apply to ALL a/c entering the Class E, if not, who does it apply to?

Re: KPSP to KREI
Hey Bruce,
You will never "bust a class E" because no ATC clearance or radio communication is required for VFR in Class E. The box you are referencing applies to aircraft entering the nearby class C airspace. In this situation, that note could apply to both KRIV and KONT as they are both in the immediate vicinity.

Thanks Ken, that was quick! For some reason I was associating the CTC Socal box to the "E" & not the nearby "C". All clear now.
As an interesting aside this question was asked of me (UK) by a guy in New Zealand, so I will relay the answer all the way back from the States. Don't you just love it?

I was asking myself the same question a week ago, even though I had read up on airspaces on Wikipedia and whatever else I could find. After watching the VFR 1 workshop, all my questions on airspaces got answered. A highly recommended 3 hour watch!!
Re: KPSP to KREI
Thanks Christoph, "3 hr watch", thats the problem, I'm at 01:40 so I either missed it or it is still to come.
I do agree though, there is a lot of good stuff to be got from the workshops.

Being the chap from NZ I thought that I should thank you all for this clarification, much appreciated. It's pretty impressive to email a question as I'm heading off to bed and then able to find the answer when I get up in the morning.
