Awesome. Are you willing to share what the cost has been overall?

Hi Reece,
I have never really kept track of the costs as it kind of evolved from an iMac with a Joystick, to an iMac with a Saitek yoke/rudders/throttle, to windows to more monitors to....you get the picture. But, if I was going to put a number on it I would guesstimate about 6,000.00 to 8,000.00. That Goflight and PFC hardware is not cheap... and I am not done yet...

Any chance of a video of that puppy running on PE? Do you have an ability to route the audio to speakers as well as the headset so an observer/camera could pick up the audio?

If not, then hang out for a couple more days, we'll might have a solution for that :)

Keith,
I can probably do that. I have a two sound card system in the X-plane computer.

Great setup, Vince. I've been hatching a scheme for a setup of my own for the last month or so. It'd been on hold for a few months since I had a few guests living in the space it's going to occupy, but they're gone now, so it's time to dooo eeet!

I suspect our setups will be quite similar. Couple questions, if you don't mind (I had a ton more, but you answered many of them in your very thorough narration!)

1: Normally I see tri-monitor setups with the left and right monitors at a bit more of an angle. Any reason yours aren't?

2: Have you researched/considered removing the bezels from the monitors to get smaller gaps? Monitors are one piece I don't have yet. I'd love to do a projector setup (wouldn't we all) but space prohibits. Curious to hear your thoughts on this.

3: Is your instrument panel a touchscreen? I'm guessing not, since you have the other panels. I'm thinking of trying to have hardware knobs, but use the touchscreen for many pushbuttons, etc.

Not a question, just a note: as a fellow hockey nut I LOVE your monitor 'stands'!!

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the compliment. It has been a labour of love(of Aviation).

1. Since I am using the Matrox TH2GO digital, it sees it as one large monitor. I felt increasing the angle any more than I have already, would put the perspective out.
2. I have never thought of removing the bezels on the monitors. I have always just simulated them as windshield supports(in my own mind!!). I will look into that. Thanks.
3. The instrument panel is not touchscreen as I had set it up just before FTS had come out with SimAvio with touchscreen capabilities. Now that I have everything cut to size it will probably be a while before I go in that direction, although it looks quite interesting.

Yes, it seems the hockey pucks are a hit with a few people. Duct tape and hockey pucks are a Canadian staple of any handyman!!

You can control the instrument panel by installing a simple touchpad, most likely to the top right hand of the panel above the monitor. Then you can adjust your horizon, radar range, ECAM settings, etc. The only time I need a keyboard for the instrument panel PC is if I need to edit some panels, but during flight operations the touchpad works just fine by itself.
