Who to contact when landing at airport in Class C

Post by breadwild »

Fellow PE pilots,

I am planning a short flight from KONT to KBUR, both in their own Class C space. I have flown out of KONT and have been asked to contact clearance delivery, then SoCal departure after takeoff. Eventually the coverage was terminated and I was left to my own devices.

So if I want to fly into KBUR http://skyvector.com/?ll=34.13478168455 ... :A.K2.KBUR what would be best practices?

1. Ask for flight following in my initial call to KONT clearance delivery and let them talk me into KBUR?
2. Contact SoCal approach before entering KBUR's Class C and let them handle the transition?
3. Stay below the Class C "shelves" at KBUR and then just call the tower before entering the SFC-4000 Class C?

Thanks all.

This is a functional copy of the v2 rating, check it out if you haven't already.

Simplest thing to do is to coordinate flight following with delivery.

I'll check out the tests.

BTW, I find the actual Sectional for Los Angeles lacking in VFR landmarks, e.g., between KONT and KBUR. I find the PE map much more detailed for landmarks, roads, etc., and not cluttered with all that yellow. What is the source of those maps. I know it says Google, but not sure where they can be found other than on PE.

A Terminal Area Chart is nearly essential for flying in the LAX area. That will help in finding landmarks. http://skyvector.com/?ll=33.86334995529 ... 114&zoom=4

Duh, Brad!

Thanks pieces. Perfect. Also the "FLY" map isn't too bad and isolates the airspace classes nicely (I remember Keith talking about this one in the first workshop).
