Rob, agreed. Even without PE, simply spending a boatload of time in a sim can help a great deal. I do believe PE takes it to another level of effectiveness and workload, but even without it, still useful.
No question that if more people used sims more frequently, it would reduce the deaths caused by flight into inadvertent IMC. We're actually starting to pitch a medivac company for precisely that reason. It's their #1 killer, afaik.

Do they fly helicopters? I flew a helicopter in FSX a number of times recently just to try it. I always thought that they were a knock-off. To my surprise, it had real flight dynamics and...wow...what an experience. Very different than flying fixed-wing.
