PilotEdge text chat (IRC)

Post by Tim Krajcar »

Hi all,

We're introducing a new communication method for the PE community. There's now an official PilotEdge text chat room (using IRC, for those of you that are familiar with it), to be used for ad-hoc support, chat with other pilots and perhaps a controller or two, and probably other things that we haven't thought of yet!

This is definitely experimental for us and we'll see how it goes. At a minimum, I'll be around a lot of the time during business hours, Pacific time, and hopefully others will join me!

If you're an old hand at IRC, we're in #pilotedge on Freenode. If you've never heard of IRC, no worries - there's a really simple web client - just enter a nickname, hit Start, wait a few seconds, and then type your message in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

The link to the web client is also in the main site menu under Pilot Resources.

Feel free to post any questions... or join the chat and ask there! :-)

That seems easy enough.

Fun, I always need another distraction from work. :P I'll definitely hang out. Hopefully we can get a bunch of people around.

Off to a good start, lots of good chatter today with a couple piloting questions, a couple controllers stopped by, etc.

The key with something like this is that if you try it and nobody's around, either hang out and see if somebody comes by, or don't forget to come back later and see if folks are around. Hopefully eventually we'll get enough people that there'll usually be some discussion going on, but while we build up that core of people, gotta keep checking back or leave it open instead of doing a drive by for 5 minutes.

it looks like the hosted web client is having issues. It's still reachable from standalone clients. Tim's going to check it out later tonight.

OK, fixed the web client link in this post and in the menu. Should be trouble free now.
