Question about ATC Procedures

Post by Taco »

Hello, everyone.
I'm new here.

I have a question about when to contact clearance delivery.

Here's the story.
My instructor told me to fly solo VFR to Class C airport and make full stop, then fly to another airport. He said I didn't have to stop by at FBO. So I planned to taxi off the runway and then taxi to the end of the same runway for VFR departure without stopping at FBO or ramp.

In this case, on which timing should I contact to the Clearance Delivery to get a departure clearance ??

Thank you very much, in advance !!

If you're turning right back around at the Class C, I would suggest letting the tower controller know what your intentions are as you exit the runway (to taxi back to the active and request a new VFR departure). The tower will know who to send you to and where for you to go. Depending on congestion at the airport, the following things could happen:

- You'll be told to taxi back to the runway and will receive your VFR departure instructions from ground control while taxiing or once holding short of the active.
- You'll be told to taxi back to the runway and once holding short of the active you'll be switched to clearance frequency.
- You'll be told to taxi somewhere so that you can park safely away from moving traffic and then told to call clearance. Then you would call ground to resume taxi.

Since your flight will terminate with ground control, ask them and they'll figure out what is the best thing for you to do to remain safe and efficient while receiving that information.

You could also let ground control know (really, you'd have to, right?) Generally, they won't make you go to Clearance Delivery if you're on the taxiway or runway...they'll just handle it since they probably won't want to run the risk of needing to talk to you when you're on CD frequency.

Thank you, julio.elizalde !
I understood that there were some possibilities. I will explain my intention to the Tower or the Ground !

Thank you, seippg !
Yeah, I think it is a better idea to stay on the Ground frequency while on the taxiway. Also, talking to CD during taxi is a little risky for me because I usually need to take notes.
