Missing or misplaced taxiway at KSNA

Post by punder »

I passed my V-01 test last night, but not without some embarrassments...

I was taxiing out of the southeast part of the ramp, and told to take A, H, C, K to 19R. So I'm bumbling along on A... here comes G... next taxiway must be H... wow, it's a long way down there! About the time I realize the next turn is J, the controller says I've passed H, just go on to K. There wasn't an H!

After another moment of confusion and a tire-smoking 360, I finally got straight with my taxiways and completed the three circuits.

Taxiway H is on my current airport diagram, in the spot where the controller saw it. G is on the WEST side of the runways, nowhere near where FSX put it.

Does this happen a lot in FSX?

Thank you, kind Controller, whoever you are. Guess you could tell I was a little nervous! :)

Ha, I should have read the "what do controllers see" post...

As it happens I was a witness to your problems with the taxiways at KSNA during your V-01 and have some sympathy. The same problem exists in X-Plane where you are at the mercy of whoever built the particular airport scenery you happen to be using. Usually it's correct, but not always. Therefore wise to consult the airport layout diagrams on Airnav, as you have already noted I think. Good luck with V-02 !

Thanks Steve, yep I printed out all the diagrams for PE airports from skyvector or airnav, they are a huge help (except when they don't agree with my flight sim, ha).

I did pass my V-02... Keith had mercy on me.

Then I flew from Camarillo to Henderson (Las Vegas) and apparently lost contact with the controller for awhile. I trust my brain to be alert for my callsign, but it may have betrayed me today. Anyway, I called a few miles from the airport and he asked me where I'd been! Then I made, not so much a landing, but an "arrival" at Henderson. Gear did not collapse so I was able to taxi off the runway.

Still getting a handle on the Legacy. It go fast. Ug.

Question, I saw some weird traffic... for example, a Concorde, gear down, making what looked like a 50-gee turn at hypersonic speed, came within maybe 500 feet of my left wing... then a couple pairs of fast movers, Dealer1 & 2 (iirc) and BEEF11 & 12, something like that. They disappeared after a few seconds, and when I took a look at squawkbox they had been "FORCED BY FSMP" or some such. I assume that means someone in charge dumped them from the network???

Interesting experience - sounds like either some drones that have been taken over by aliens or teenage intruders out for a jolly.

During my V-02 he told me that I would pass so long as I could land without crashing - consequently everything I knew about flying a traffic pattern immediately disappeared from my brain. Passed though!

Ha, well I was not very far from Edwards at the time. The truth is out there!

Those are B1's on high speed military routes, or arriving at PMD. You'll see 'removed by FSMP' sometimes if a drone (which was recorded with X-Plane) hits the FS9/FSX terrain, since the terrain meshes are slightly different between the sims.

The drones do low level work on the military training routes, clearing some of the ridges by just a few feet. They don't survive in FSX, sadly.

The plane that actually came within sight, was definitely a Concorde, white, with the ogival delta wing, and gear down. Very weird. It was climbing like a rocket to my left roughly on my heading, then made a right turn into me at my altitude and climbed out of sight behind me.

"AirEast 31, do you wish to file a report of any kind to us?"

"I wouldn't know what kind of report to file, Center."

We don't ship with a B-1 in the stock model set...the closest would be the Concorde. But...it was flown with a B-1, and is connected to the network as B-1, hence the flight characteristics. The gear was down because the gear is static on that basic Concorde model.

The explanations become more and more convoluted. Much easier to believe in aliens :ugeek:
