Long Overdue

Post by Donovan »

Although I am a frequent reader of the PE forums, I've not been one to post often.

There was a recent thread that prompted me to write something that has been on my mind ever since first being fortunate enough to find my way to PilotEdge.

I have learned an absolutely incredible amount since becoming a PE member – the video seminars have been nothing short of fantastic, but the opportunity to practice putting it to use in an economic, safe and low-risk manner has been a blessing! I easily remember not very long ago, how dry my mouth was, heart pounding out of my chest, butterflies in my stomach (and every other internal organ in my body) just to speak to ATC. I literally had to write down word for word what I thought I should say before I dared keyed the mike. It took me about an hour of sweating on the ramp to even make my first call-up! I've come a long ways since then, and have a long ways to go, but I am getting there -- studying, learning, practicing, and loving every moment of it.

The controllers have been amazing on all fronts – from pulling me out of the soup any number of times when I missed a way-point, or became disoriented in IMC, or simply got myself overwhelmed by getting “behind the plane” while trying to coordinate the myriad of actions necessary to fly competently and safely in the system. They each have been patient when patience was warranted, pointed when I erred while having known better, but always instructive and constructive. They are consummate professionals in this regard, and the enjoyment and education I have received on PE is far beyond remuneration.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the service and environment that PE provides for virtually mere pennies, will save lives as it helps pilots improve their skills and competence.

By far the most cost-effective means for any business endeavor to expand is simple word of mouth recommendation. I feel like I’ve been irresponsible in this regard, as I have a number of real-world pilots who are also simulation enthusiasts, who I have not told about PE and made sure they have made their way online here. My gawd, I've done them a disservice!!!

If anyone feels that the network is “too small” or “too underpopulated” or otherwise lacking, my question is “What have you done to help it expand?”

Just my two cents, and sincere thanks for a job well done.

Thank you all !

Thanks, Don, I appreciate you taking the time to post that. And yes, if there are pilots who you think would benefit from using the system, please do let them know. As you said, word of mouth is the most powerful tool we have.
