Help planning a VFR flight

Post by mdolislager »

So I'm looking at today's focus fields (KNYL-KMYF).

My question is what is the best way to enter the pattern at KMYF with Gillespie's D airspace so close to Montgomery's D? Tried looking for VFR arrival procedures online with little luck. I found flying over Lake Murray and then straight in to the 28's might be preferred. And if I have flight following I assume approach will coordinate with KSEE's Delta and let me know how is best to manuver around.

Anyone have other ideas/expereince?

Thanks,
Marcos

Is there any particular reason you want to go north at PILLO instead of continuing straight on V-66, then turning toward the field at Lake Murray? If you're concerned about the 5800' bravo shelf just keep north of the MZB 76 radial until you're under it. More direct, plus that way you're out toward the edge of Gillespie's delta and less of a potential nuisance. Either way, I'm sure approach would handle that transition for you.

EDIT: And KSEE's delta only goes to 2400', which you could probably just clip the corner of on your way into KMYF. Shouldn't be a problem.

Ya I see what you're saying. I guess I wasn't thrilled about treading the 5800' Bravo shelf. Cruising at 6500' and to clear the mountain range east of the SD area would put me right into the Bravo if I wasn't careful.

All's good though. I'll just let approach deal with it :)

I agree, get FF, stay under the Bravo (I wouldn't expect a transition since it conflicts with the SAN arrival flow), then let app deal with the transition. Or, do it without FF, call SEE for the transition and request early freq change to MYF.

FF may not work since the MEA(IFR term so do not pay too much attention) starts at 8000 then goes down to 7000 so you are not guaranteed a nav or com signal for your planned route at our planned altitude. That is not a big deal since you are VFR. Once you leave V66 it looks like you will be following I-8 flying IFR(I Follow Roads) until alpine. That brings up one question though, why even change course from Alpine? I get why you would want to deviate to the north to avoid the bravo. Since you are VFR cross the ridge at your 6500 planned altitude then descend as needed on the west side as it goes to 2000 pretty quick. By alpine you could be at 4000 or lower to be below the bravo shelf. You then could dial up KSEE tower and ask to transition their D while you descend to pattern alt for KYMF and set up for a entry for right base for 28R. Doing it that way you avoid conflicts with IFR arrivals for 28R.

The portion of the flight I was referring to for flight following was approaching KSEE. Com reception won't be an issue there.
