I came back to PE after some time, have flown under ASA2696 toady and it was a disaster! I've recently switched to FSX for its amazing Majestic Dash. Installed PE client software. Forgot to change the default sound output and the controller's voice came thru display speakers mixed with all the engine sounds. Secondly I was unable to handle the radios, therefore had not contacted Approach in time. Last but not least the FSX became behaving strangely and crashed to desktop just before landing. I think I will get back to good old XPX (as soon as the PE client for Mac will be 64bit ready)...
I believe it was Keith being so unfortunate to handle my mess. I therefore apologize for that and promise it will be allright next time -:)
My apology to Keith
Re: My apology to Keith
jbetlach,
I don't use FSX that much, but there is a known glitch with using the menu bar during flight that will cause CDT's (among other causes of CDT's, I know). I don't know if you know about it or not. The fix is a file called UIAutomationCore.dll. Again, that may not be your problem, but if it is, easy fix. CDT's on final suck. You can be assured you are not the first!
As for the Majestic Q400. It's an awesome turboprop, I agree! I recently returned to flying it after flying mostly GA aircraft. I just love flying it. One great feature is radio management. I would leave the ARCDU's alone, but be sure to set both to 'FMS' using the same knobs you use to turn them on. Doing so allows you to tune all of your radios using the FMS. And to do that, you press the 'TUNE' button on the FMS, which will bring up a menu where you can select Com1, Com2, Nav1, Nav2, ADF, and Transponder. The com and nav radios all have the ability to store 10 preprogrammed frequencies. So, what I do, after getting current weather, is to preprogram my Clearance, Ground, Tower, and assigned Departure frequencies in com1 (you'll rarely need com2 with the ability to preprogram 10 frequencies). You can cycle through all your frequencies using the 'ENTER' key. After takeoff, when you are asked to contact departure, press the 'TUNE' button on the FMS, select the LSK next to Com1, and then press the line number of your preprogrammed departure frequency, hit 'ENTER', and that's it. You don't have to look at your center pedestal and fumble with the ARCDU. Enroute, when you are given a frequency for Center, just bring up your FMS pop-up window, 'TUNE', Com1, and then type in your assigned Center frequency, press 'ENTER'. Done. Before top of descent, I preprogram the Approach, Tower, and Ground frequencies of my arrival airport (get those from the approach charts of course), so when asked to contact approach and then tower, they're already preprogrammed in the FMS. It's a great feature of the Q400 that really helps with cockpit management, especially when things are moving quickly in the terminal areas, so take advantage of it!

Todd,
first of I do have the UIAutomationCore.dll tweak, that CTD I've mentioned has been caused by something else.
Thank you very much for the FMS radio hint. I knew about this feature but somehow forgot about it. I will try that next time as I am not willing to give up on FSX just yet - that Majestic Dash is too good to let it go...
