Van Nuys

Post by djrisc »

Ok,
I am becoming a complete aviation geek. I drove over to Van Nuys Airport this morning and picked up a kneeboard from an FBO as I was completely out of desk space in here for my notepad. lol

Anyway, when driving back home I pulled over the side of the road as I was driving right along taxiway Alpha and came across these old WWII planes that are on display on the side of the taxiway in Van Nuys.

Here are some ghetto pictures from my car:

I believe that's the ILS transmitter in the background? I also drove right by Van Nuys VOR but there was no place to pull over to take a picture.

Way cool. I'd love to see those old warbirds fly sometime. I used to do the same thing when I lived in LA, I'd use any excuse to drive to all the airports in the area, take pics and just soak in the whole vibe. The airports here on the east coast just aren't the same. At all. By a long shot.

Can you tell I miss LA? :P

Great pics! Thanks for sharing with us! Btw... the tower in the last photo is for the glide slope antennas.

That is the glideslope antenna. The localizer antenna is at the departure end of the runway.

The aircraft pictured are T-6 trainers from the WW II era. They belong to members of the Condor Squadron, a volunteer group that performs at airshows.
