Strange radio communication -- to me anyway
Strange radio communication -- to me anyway
Took off from KSNA flt folo to KDAG
Initial instructions , "fly 330 not above 2400" so I complied, after about 10 minutes "radar contact baile? (or something similiar)", not too sure what my response was meant to be so I replied "understand Radar contact rest of msg not understood" he replied "confirm ht 2400", "affirm", "turn N/E & resume own nav" I did.
All explanations greatfully received.
PS: I think that maybe he was asking me to confirm my position was o/h baile(?)

I just listened to the recording. He says "G-AWTL, RADAR contact, say altitude" several times. Sounds like there was a sound issue somewhere. Nothing about BAILE.

Yup, that's what I said, Bruce. I needed to verify that my Mode C readout was correct.Pieces wrote:I just listened to the recording. He says "G-AWTL, RADAR contact, say altitude" several times. Sounds like there was a sound issue somewhere. Nothing about BAILE.

Thanks for clearing that up. Yes there was a sound imbalance on my side, the result of an over noisy C47 which I failed to fix in time. Engines strength 7 & radio 5. Apologies to whoever was controlling....he did sound a bit perplexed.

Just for the record, BAILE is an intersection just north of Wichita Falls, TX. lol.

I thought the correct phraseology was "ah, fugedaboudit" -- but I can't find it in the AIM.
