Taking a spanking

There are some great controllers on PE and I greatly appreciate their professionalism and ability to inform pilots like myself what I need to know that I havent gotten to practice while simming using only default ATC. I look forward to the day where I am comfortable doing voice calls on PE and its because of PE that one like myself and learn and practice that part of aviation in a very true to life environment.

While I havent made any huge errors, I am seeing where I make small ones and am thankful that the controllers are able to inform me of what or how I should be doing it when I do. One of the greatest things I enjoyed about when I got into simming was the whole learning aspect and my self taught discovery of aviation rules and regs as well as the whys and hows. With PE I'm rediscovering that element and look forward to each new flight with the hopes of having that perfect flight both at the planes controls and the radio controls.

Thanks Nathan. It's often difficult for ATC to gauge how much feedback a pilot is looking for on the network. It could be an experienced pilot who just made a mistake, in which case, they just need to be called out on the error. Or, it could be that the pilot who just made the mistake doesn't actually know what the correct procedure should be to begin with. As a result, we have to make an educated guess. It's an imperfect process, but by and large, we seem to be doing more good than harm :)

I'm not sure what controllers see in our flight plans submitted, but I'll usually request "procedure feedback requested" in the comments field as I am taking this learning experience seriously.

That's not a bad way to go about it. A better way, though, is to simply ask ATC on frequency. Simply saying "Approach, I've got a question if you have a minute" will let us know that you have something to say and we'll give you the go-ahead if we're not too busy. Once given the go-ahead, you can ask "How'd my procedure turn look?" or "Did I fly that SID properly?"

I have to admit that there have been a few times I just wanted an easy fun flight only to make some procedural mistake....... Not really being in the mind set to have someone point out my errors........

However, at the end of the day, I signed up (and pay real $$) for professional ATC. The real ATC controllers don't care if you have had a "bad day" or not. Pilotedge shouldn't care either. In fact, the ATC on Pilotedge should tow the line even harder than real world. How else can we learn from our mistakes?

:idea: But I do have a tongue and check suggestion. How about a "safe word" that can be used when the spanking gets too much to bear? Until then, keep bringing it!

You mean like one of the secret (not-on-the-menu) drinks at Starbucks or the secret sandwiches at In-And-Out Burger....? :lol:

Sometimes we see our members put something along the lines of "Go easy on me" in their flight plan remarks. Assuming we notice that, it usually acts as a "safe word" and might lower our standards for you a little bit.

How many characters can go in that comments field. I know it is very small.

I would always like to be told of every single mistake I make, otherwise, what's the point!

A standard phrase to go in there, asking the controllers to inform me of every single mistake I make would be useful. For example "maximum feedback", "all errors", etc.

Can we ask all controllers to read the comments field and action the request.

I'm not sure of an exact number, but I wouldn't call it small. It's plenty long to fit at least a standard sentence or two.

Kevin, for controllers that use the strip bay, which mimics a real world flight progress strip, the comments area doesn't fit more than a few words.
