the new CSLs

Post by Keith Smith »

My goodness. It's hard to explain what a big impact these have on the level of immersion in the sim. We'll have a nice promo video for these, but the early indications look pretty spectacular.

Real XP10 lights (core, glow, flares and spills), shadows, normal maps, and animated control surfaces. It all adds up to a visual experience that you can only get today by flying offline with AI traffic. But then...you're flying offline :) To have ATC interaction with real traffic is pretty killer.

A screen shot doesn't quite do it justice, but we'll put together a video soon.

We'll have some planes ready for the Jun 10 upgrade to sweeten the upgrade for everyone, with more planes coming after that. Carenado are converting their entire fleet of X-Plane aircraft to nextgen CSL's for use on our network. We're also getting some help from Tom Kyler who built the MU-2 and is working on the IXEG 737. Jack frmo FlyJSim might be taking part, too, once he completes his product release.

It's going to be a whole new world with the new CSL's, that much is for sure. XP10 looks staggering and the old style CSL's with no animation, shadows, lighting or reflections just don't cut it.

I'll ask the dumb question...

What is a CSL?

It's the standard for the objects that are used to display the multiplayer aircraft.

Will FSX users notice any difference for better? Pardon my ignorance if it's a silly question.

Neato! So no more red and green squares for aircraft lights?

Marcus, a fix for the lights was published a while ago in an update for the plugin, at least to make them reasonable in HDR mode.

this upgrade willl bring real xp10 lighting and shadows to these models.

no, it won't affect how they look when viewed in fsx, this is why I only posted it in the xplane forum :)
