ATC problems

Post by ssmith812 »

Hello,

Today i signed up for pilotedge and decided to try the suggested first flight from L52 to KSBP. I logged on after setting everything up and restarting x-plane then followed the procedures. This all seemed to go fine until i got to contacting the San Luis tower. All i could hear was the Santa Barbra operations even though i made sure i was on the right frequency (124.00). I tried contacting the San Luis tower but there was no response after 3 attempts. After that i had to turn back to L52 to avoid causing too much trouble entering others airspace. Either there was no one staffing the San Luis tower at the time or there is a problem with the push to talk or the pilot edge connection. I have tried with both a joystick assignment and using the enter key, and i could see myself on the map displaying correct info. Pilotedge seems really cool so it would be great if we could get this issue sorted out.

Thanks,
Stephen

Also the atis for san luis was the standard x-plane atis it seemed (machine like and sounds like what normal xplane atis sounds like). I don't know if this is normal or not

I can't explain why you could not make contact with ATC, but I can tell you the ATIS information actually IS the ATIS that X-Plane generates. PilotEdge doesn't provide any ATIS information. Your weather comes from your X-Plane installation, whether you choose to download the METAR online or set your own weather.

Did you check the archived recordings on the main website? Were you audible? It might be that you tuned in the right frequency but your mic wasn't transmitting.

Keep in mind at times there is one controller handling multiple facilities including approach and tower. You may hear instructions from an approach facility but if you tuned the tower accurately, you will be able to contact that facility.

ok, i have tried to test the things i did but none seemed to have worked. I made sure my headset is selected in the output and was the only input device for the computer. I have tried using the CONTACT ATC button as set on my joystick, then as set by default and nothing seemed to have worked.

Have you confirmed that your mic is actually picking up sounds? I've had that happen before (had the mic muted).

We can set up a scheduled time via private message. I'll use a debugging tool to see if you are transmitting, and to verify that the system thinks you are on the right frequency. I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it fairly quickly.
