Yeah, that sounds like your best bet. I was running the G1000 on the same machine when I first got it, and it ran okay, but I wanted to free up the video cards for more outside monitors. There's a photo of my setup on page 8 of the pilot introductions thread if you're interested:

Awesome setup! That's exactly what I'm planning to do also. Now you said the unit was the Emuteq unit from the UK. What package did you purchase from Flight1Tech to integrate the avionics? I see the saitek switch panel in the photo. Does this work well with the 172,182, and 206? What do you do about the multi engine or does this work with it also? Do you start your flights cold and dark or with engines running? Thanks for all the help!

I got the G1000 Student Simulator (not the pro version) with the cockpit builder plugin, which lets you remove the bezels, position the windows and use the hardware's knobs and buttons. The pro version does all that without the plugin, but it's almost twice as expensive (you're paying for the commercial license).

As for the Saitek switch panel, it works fine with all the aircraft. I just have to use the SPAD driver to get it to work with Prepar3D. Saitek may have a newer driver by now. I haven't checked in a while. I don't do a whole lot of multi-engine except for the PMDG 737 (which I haven't flown on PE). With that, I don't really use the switch panel, but I'm sure it would work fine for most multi-engine aircraft.

For my GA flights, I start cold and dark, since it's pretty quick to get it started up. For the 737, I'll start with the engines off, but usually the APU already going and the FMC mostly programmed for the flight I'm doing.

Ok thank you for the clarification on the software. I should have been more precise when I was asking about the multi engine. I was referring to the DA42 or BE58 if you have the add on. I was referring to those as the multi engines. Are you using payware aircraft for the external models or the default ones provides by Flight1Tech? I currently have the Carenado Skylane and Stationair. I would like to use those for the models. Thanks!

Ah, I see what you're saying. I thought you were referring to the Saitek panel when you were asking about the multi-engine. I don't have the Baron add-on, but I've flown their default DA-42, and it works well.

I fly the Iris DA-40 and Carenado Skylane among other payware aircraft. I usually don't use the default ones that came with the Flight1 software except when I was initially testing them out. I haven't flown the Carenado Stationair, but I have no doubt it would work well with the G1000. Incidentally, selecting one of the aircraft that the software supports (172, 182, 206, DA40, DA42) changes a few things like engine instruments, but it mainly just sets the V speeds. You can completely customize all of those speeds with your own numbers. So there's no reason you can't use the software with any aircraft that's not officially supported (Piper, Beechcraft, Mooney, etc.) I've even left the G1000 running with the 737 just for fun. Of course, it's not designed for that, but it seemed to keep up just fine. Maybe some day they'll release an add-on for the Citation.

Are you starting each of your flights with the G1000 cold and dark? Every time I run P3Dv2.2 the engines are running and I have to shut everything down. Is there a way around this? I would like to start at the ramp with everything off so that I could use the checklist for startup just like in the real world. Thanks!

Yes, I start with it cold and dark. To get it to start that way, you have to shut everything down, then just save the flight. You can save it as the default flight so Prepar3D will start up that way.

Well today is the day I pulled the trigger. I ordered the Flight1Tech G1000 along with secondary pc. This is through Jetline Systems. I have my main pc with them and let me tell you they are an awesome company to do business with. Look forward to it coming in next week and start flying with some real hardware. I will be flying both P3D/X Plane 10. Can't wait to put her through the paces. Thanks!

Hello everybody,

just started a similar thread about Garmin G1000 simulation hardware here:

Maybe that's interesting for more guys accidentally getting to this post via Google just like me. ;)
