vfr )not flight following, or dont want it....

Post by falopz »

ive got confusion regarding non flight following vfr.....

if i took off vfr from non towered airport, transponder 1200, on the air i call socal and instantly he assigns me a diferent squak code...why is this....i was not in class b or c....

what do i have to do to fly on my own squaking 1200.

on other side if i pick a clearance and say vfr to the west i dont ask for advisories or request following then i use the 1200 squak....if controller doest asign new code, if he does can i request 1200 not flollowed flight?

sorry if i dont explain well, hope someone understands what i ask.....

In order for a radar controller (anyone who is not tower, ground or clearance delivery) to give you any sort of control instructions, he or she will issue you a discrete beacon code (A squawk code that doesn't end in 00). This code is specific in the system to your airplane thus your callsign and flight plan information appear on the screen for the controller right next to your aircraft's primary target.

1200 is the standard VFR code that you should squawk when you are flying VFR and you have not been told to squawk anything different. It seems to me that you did not want flight following therefore I'm not sure why you called up ATC in the first place.

If you want to fly on your own, VFR squawking 1200, just stay outside of controlled airspace...no need to call ATC.

If you are on the ground at a towered airport and you want to depart without any radar service, simply state "negative radar service" when you make your VFR departure request. If ATC still gives you a squawk code, then you're probably at a class B or C airport.

Hope that helps

Hi luis, if you want to fly without flight following, the you don't have to talk to ATC at all... Just depart from the uncontrolled airfield, doing the required radio calls on appropriate Unicom or multicom frequencies and keep flying. You do not need to call SOCAL approach or anybody else. You just need to keep yourself flying inside class G or E airspace and of course you have to keep your transponder at 1200 the whole time.

You only need to call ATC if you need flight following or to enter into class B, C or D airspace.

but as i see, thats not mandatory

thanks

and i will keep this in mind.....

from poeple that doesnt fly in usa this things are not easy to digest....

Are you talking about something like a Flight Service Station where you open your VFR flight plan? If so, the United States has that, but we do not simulate that on PilotEdge.

Luis,

The first flight in the new VFR training program (not yet released) is a flight from a non-towered field to a non-towered field without flight following. I agree that it might not be obvious to newcomers that you can fly without talking to anyone, and I wanted to introduce the simplest flight possible from an conceptual standpoint.

The best way to approach this is to make sure you're comfortable with the communication requirements for each type of airspace in which you're flying. If your flight starts at a Class G airport, enters Class E airspace while enroute, then arrives at another Class G airport, the communication requirements for E and G airspace are "none", so logically, you don't need to interact with ATC on that flight.

Class D airspace requires communication. Class C requires communication. Class B requires communication and a clearance.
