SFRA Success without killing anyone!

I did my first LA SFRA transition (you know the one where you talk to nobody woot!) tonight, it was cool. Well I did talk to two controllers... leaving SNA and calling SMO tower inbound to land.

I didn't break any laws as far as I can tell. The only thing I didn't do was monitor that special freq, I think 128.55 or something... I didn't see anyone out there to chat with.

I did have to request a 360 to get down into SMO from 4500... wondering if there's a better way to enter the pattern without a 360? You don't really have a lot of airspace to work with, you've got BUR to the north and the LAX bravo to the south and east.... so I think I did pretty well -flying XP10 Carenado's C206 - very nice plane!

You can extend downwind to lose your altitude. You can also request a right-hand pattern which gives you a midfield crossing plus a downwind in which to lose altitude. I've done both in the real world (though usually I take the mini route so I'm at a more reasonable 2500')

Yeah I thought about over the top for RH downwind but the 360 seemed to work ok.

Agreed on the mini route - maybe more work but 2000 ft is a lot better.

Flew the coastal and the mini route last night, have yet to try the SFRA, I looked at the altitude and that was what put me off to be honest, I think your 360 descending hold is probably the best option I will give it a go next time I'm on (or you could do a steep slip if you're confident !!!)

I have a graphic somewhere, but I thought it was something like from the SFRA northbound to over cross midfield and then a large left 270 to the north to enter a right downwind. I've done it on the sim, but have never seen the RL application. I was just in the SFRA the other day too. I announced on 128.55 but like you there was no one else out there to play with. I often wonder if others announce on the SFRA frequency or any of the other published multi-com freq's for the SOCAL area in the flight training areas.

I did it again last night in the baby king air (N629JG)... All right through the lovely B and talked to no one (departed SZP arrived OKB)

Of course the more realistic VFR flight be almost direct and top the Bravo but I wanted to see if I could do it without any GPS and mainly looking out the window (XP10), and talking to no one muwahaha.

Flying this route and no atc talky talky reminded me of the vatsim days I would try to scare the controllers.... Ever flown into 06C airport outside of Chicago (well inside I guess.... like 6 west of ORD).... I'd fly that all the time on a 1200 code and I've had so many "contact me's" lol!!

We have a drone (recorded by a PilotEdge beta tester from years ago named Wayne Conrad) that flies through the SFRA all day long, we're using to see those targets...no biggie
