Hello all,
I am currently going through a flight academy and had a quick question. While doing a practice IFR flight the other night I was issued a TEC route. I plugged it into Foreflight and it showed me the route no problem. After some time googleing and reading on the PE site I still have virtually no knowledge of these. I also asked instructors at school and none of them have ever flown one. I know that they can be looked up here (http://www.fly.faa.gov/rmt/nfdc_preferr ... tabase.jsp) for real world operations, but if I am in the aircraft and issued a clearance that uses one of these, are they published anywhere else? I ask because I will be doing time building for my commercial ratings in a few weeks and flying throughout California is a big possibility. Thanks!
TEC Routes
Re: TEC Routes
They are published in the SW edition of the A/FD.
https://aeronav.faa.gov/afd/18Sep2014/S ... df#page=65
Suggest that you add this to your documents in Foreflight so you have it available. Note that the route is dependent upon the classification of your aircraft however Foreflight does not consider this when it proposes a TEC route in the "Route Advisor" so don't rely on using that feature. Instead you should always manually confirm the appropriate route in the A/FD.
EDIT: also suggest the workshop Keith did on TEC routes available at :

Re: TEC Routes
Be careful with this as well. Foreflight does not always plot the route correctly, especially if the route has something other then established waypoints, VOR's or airways. I love Foreflight but they still have some work to do when it comes to TEC routes.Hawkeye0914 wrote: I plugged it into Foreflight and it showed me the route no problem.
Example: KMHV - KHHR using the EDWN1 TEC route (PMD V518 KIMMO V459 DARTS V186 ADAMM V394 HHR RY25 LOC).
Here is what Foreflight plots:
It should be more like this:

Re: TEC Routes
In addition to the workshop, we do have a Pilot Training Program which contains several flights that deal with TEC routes. The first of these is the I-3 rating, listed here:
http://training.pilotedge.net/object/i3Rating.html
That rating contains a brief description of TEC and a cockpit video demo of flying a TEC route from SNA to BUR. The rating also contains a link to a document describing TEC in more detail:

If you have any more questions, let us know.
